CHAPTER ELEVEN

Diana waited just inside her front door, eager for Cami’s arrival. She almost wished she’d decided to cook instead of picking up Thai food. At least then she’d have something to do besides wearing down the Þ nish of her hardwood ß oor. Of course, Diana’s culinary stylings were unreliable at best, and she didn’t want to send Cami running for the door after the Þ rst bite.

She’d spent the week tense with anticipation, knowing that eventually they’d track down the missing katana but dreading the bits of nastiness that popped up along the way. Tonight, listening carefully for the sound of Cami’s footsteps in the hall, she was Þ lled with a different kind of anticipation. The edges were laced with excitement, nervousness, lust, and emerging hope. Diana turned the knob at the Þ rst hint of Cami knocking, a half-fulÞ lled rapping cut short by Diana’s impatience.

Cami’s expression ß ashed from surprised to pleased to determined as she stepped across the threshold, inviting Diana closer with a smoldering look. She kicked the door shut behind her as she wrapped her arms around Diana’s waist.

“I’ve got to get you a key so you don’t waste so much time knocking.”

The last half of the sentence was lost in the crush of their bodies as Cami pulled her in for a tight hug. Key? The implication left Diana light-headed and dizzy. It wasn’t a planned announcement, but the sentiment tasted good hanging in the air between them.

Cami clung to her and whispered, “I missed you.”

Logic dictated that she hadn’t known Cami long enough to have anything other than an overwhelming case of lust. Logic didn’t stop her heart from pounding out of her chest at the thought of coming home to Cami. The tedious chores she abhorred, like laundry and dishes, sounded enchanting so long as Cami was going to be there. She had it bad.

“God, I missed you, too.” Diana ran her Þ ngers through the long, blond curls framing Cami’s face.

She trailed her hand down Cami’s body, reveling in the trembling ß esh beneath her touch. A voice in the back of her head screamed doubt at her, freaked that Cami affected her so much. But she tuned it out, refusing to shut herself off from her burgeoning feelings just because she had a few irrational insecurities. All that mattered was this moment with Cami wrapped up in her arms, trembling, ready, and trusting.

Diana released herself to Cami’s embrace, waiting for the urgent edge to fade. Cami’s Þ ngers slid down Diana’s back, coming to a stop at the brief strip of skin between her low-slung jeans and black tank. Her touch held the conÞ dence of familiarity with an underlying sweetness that made Diana weak. The desperate need to possess that had driven their previous encounters was fast giving way to a deeper need to know more than just the contours of ß esh.

She released her hold on Cami, lingering long enough to brush her lips over the smooth skin of Cami’s neck and cheek.
